But the government needs to look at the problem holistically because it is a global crisis, Davis said in an interview at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council conference.

For the first time since it went public in 1999, the Atlanta-based company is not forecasting how many packages it will ship that day. United Parcel Service also will not project how many seasonal employees it will hire this year to help it through the holiday shipping season that runs from Thanksgiving until Christmas.
Last year, UPS, the world's largest shipping carrier, delivered more than 22 million packages on its peak shipping day, which was Dec. 19, and it hired about 60,000 seasonal employees.

The hearing, which was expected to continue through Wednesday, is all about skirt length. The women, all devout Muslims lost their jobs in 2005 because they refused to hike their skirts above the knee over their long pants. They say, Islam requires them to be fully covered for modesty and allege discrimination on the basis of religion and gender.
